Rail Design and Build Contract Award for RJ Power Rail

RJ Power Rail Limited is delighted to announce the award of a GRIP 4-8 design and build Electrification and Plant (E&P) Cable Doubling contract, for the Wessex route of Network Rail’s Southern Region as a Principal Contractor.

The scope of this Control Period 6 contract is to carry out works to ensure the existing DC 750V feeder cables from Substation/TP Huts DC Circuit breakers to the conductor rail are doubled to provide DC power resilience in key areas between Woking and Southampton.

The project will include activities, such as Civils, ETE and Electrical Services works which will be designed, planned, managed and delivered by the RJ Power Rail team, with the support of the company’s approved supply chain partners.

The works are likely to include the following:

  • Renewal and doubling of DC 750V feeder cables
  • Replacement or removal of existing hookswitches
  • Installation or relocation of existing track disconnectors
  • Cable management, including UTX, URX, CMS, YSD, GRP, troughing and cable end boxes to aid substation cable access
  • Commissioning into service on completion

RJ Power Rail Sales Director, Matt Woolley, was delighted with this latest contract award and added:

“Securing this contract was reliant on a well-developed work winning strategy and is testament to the skill and commitment of the team involved – many of whom will now go on to deliver this project. We have built an excellent working relationship with the client team, which has developed during other programmes of work, such as our Wessex E&P Planned and Reactive Framework contract.

“As Principal Contractor for this design and build project, we look forward to now delivering on our promise and we are excited to receive future tendering opportunities from Network Rail in respect of rail electrification and plant works.”

RJ Power Rail look forward to keeping you updated on this and future projects through our Social Media channels and as well as the creation of a case study on the RJ Power Group of companies website during progression and completion of the works.
