Install 1MVA 11000/400V Unit Substation

RJ Power Connections were engaged by A.C.Goatham & Son to install a 1MVA 11000/400V unit substation.

This project was to provide supplies for a cold storage unit and site accommodation for a new business development. The programme of work activities were completed between March and September in 2020, with a number of key milestones across several workstreams of delivery.

Given location of the works taking place on farmland, it was critical that RJ Power Connections worked closely and collaboratively with the client, to ensure that the on-going farming operations on the site were not negatively impacted.

Project Deliverables

The scope of works was the design, supply and installation of a 1MVA 11000/400V unit substation to provide supplies for a cold storage unit and site accommodation. The contestable works for the 11kV cable and ring main unit (RMU) were carried out to UKPN standards and the transformer / LV works to Energy Assets standards as the adopting IDNO.

The total project encompassed the following:

  • Installation of a 1MVA Package Substation c/w close coupled RMU and 1600A LV ACB
  • Building of a GRP enclosure
  • Installation of 800 metres of 185mm Alu 11kV triplex cable
  • ‘HOT’ Site Earthing installation
  • HV Jointing cabling terminations
  • Implementation of a 100A LV metered supply point for site accommodation
  • On-site cable route excavation works and civil works
